Pitch Perfect releases August 2013

I was discussing the 50 Shades phenomenon with a male friend today, and he sent me a link to a GQ article on the subject. The article basically said women are using 50 Shades to create an environment where they can be a stand in for the Anna character, and this is simply the new version of the sitcom trope where pudgy men have hot wives: wish fulfillment.

I said this fit my theory of why Twilight was so popular. Teenage girls used the blank-slate character of Bella to project themselves into a story where a beautiful man could love a plain, awkward girl.

Kevin replied with:
“But to me it’s one of those wooden cut-outs at tourist spots where you can put your face in and have a picture taken. You’re supposed to look like a viking, or a moose, but you usually just end up looking like an asshole with his head in a piece of plywood.”

And that, my friends, is the greatest summary of 50 Shades as wish fulfillment that I have ever, EVER read.

The third month of the read along has arrived, and this month’s book is one of my personal favorites in the series! You can’t keep a good Secret for long.

After cheating death twice in one night, confessing her true nature to her werewolf soul mates and being asked to kill one of her closest friends, Secret took a much-needed vacation. By running away.

Now she’s back in town—dragged kicking and screaming—determined to clear Holden Chancery’s name. Right after she finds out what he’s accused of. It shouldn’t be hard— Holden has a habit of using their new and scintillating psychic bond to break into her thoughts and dreams at some very, shall we say, awkward moments.

Just a few things stand in her way: a secretive Tribunal leader, a group of would- be vampire slayers and two werewolf boyfriends who refuse to let her operate in her customary lone-wolf style. Even less amusing are the terrifying creatures that someone is using in an attempt to gain control of the council. Even for this out-of-the-ordinary bounty hunter, it’s a challenge with potentially deadly teeth.

Warning: Contains an ever-plucky heroine with no shortage of weapons, super-hot mind games, an ever-complicated love triangle and one hell of a creepy amusement park.

I’m planning to do a read-a-long of the Secret McQueen series to count down to the release of Book 5 in March. I’m currently looking for blogs to host an end of month discussion for each book/novella. All you have to do to participate is mention the book (preferably with a link to purchase) and suggest your blog readers discuss their thoughts on the book at the end of the month. Below is the schedule for each month’s book.

Guys… I’ve been sitting on some exciting news for awhile now and I can FINALLY tell you all.

I’ve officially signed contracts for the last 4 books in the Secret McQueen series with Samhain. So you are now guaranteed to follow Secret and her exploits all the way to Book 8.
